Top Five Groups of Names Announced for Woodmen of the World “Name the Falcon” Contest

Omaha, Neb. – Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society announces the top five groups of
falcon names for the “Name the Falcons” contest. During the contest period fans submitted their group of
five names on the Woodmen of the World Facebook page (WOWInsurance) contest tab. An internal
Woodmen of the World committee reviewed and selected the top five group name entries. These top five
entries have been posted on the WOWInsurance Facebook page contest tab, where fans can now vote for
their favorite.

The finalist names are:

  • Group 1: Storm and Thunder (females); Lightening, Hurricane and Tornado (males)
  • Group 2: Alana, Malie, Makani, Nalani, Nui
  • Group 3: Elektra and Storm (females); Hulk, Iron Man and Thor (males)
  • Group 4: Athena and Artemis (females); Apollo, Hercules and Hermes (males)
  • Group 5: Cass and Harney (females); Dodge, Farnam and Douglas (males)

According to the submitted entries, the names in Group 1 refer to types of weather. The names in Group
2 mean “awakening,” “calm,” “the wind,” “calm of the skies,” and “big great,” respectively. Group 3 are
names of comic super heroes, some of whom can be seen in the summer blockbuster movie, “The
Avengers.” The names in Group 4 are names from Greek mythology, while the names in Group 5 are the
names of several downtown Omaha streets.

Voting on the final five name groups begins on Monday, June 4 and lasts through noon, on Friday,
June 8. The winner will be announced on Monday, June 11 via Facebook, followed by Twitter and the
FalconWatch blog.
