WoodmenLife 250 Flags for 250 Years Tour

About:

WoodmenLife will welcome a commemorative Betsy Ross 250 U.S. flag to its home office on Friday, June 12, after a 6,600-mile cross-country tour marking America’s 250th birthday. The flag will fly in Omaha on Flag Day, Sunday, June 14.

The four-week tour is part of WoodmenLife’s America 250 celebration and highlights the organization’s long tradition of presenting U.S. flags to schools, first responders, community groups, and towns across the country. Since 1947, WoodmenLife has presented more than 4 million flags nationwide.

Produced by Annin Flagmakers, the Betsy Ross 250 flag features the traditional 13 alternating red and white stripes and a circle of 13 stars surrounding the number “250,” honoring the nation’s semiquincentennial.

WoodmenLife is presenting 250 of these commemorative flags to communities across the United States in advance of Flag Day.

The tour began May 11 in South Boston, VA, where the flag was first unfurled before traveling to communities across the country, including stops in Wallace, NC; Butler, PA; St. Augustine, FL; Brooksville, KY; Townsend and Union City, TN; Holly Springs, MS; El Paso, TX; and Los Angeles, CA before arriving in Omaha. At each stop, community representatives are contributing an artifact to a time capsule that will be preserved in Omaha and opened on a future date.

“WoodmenLife is proud to present these special commemorative flags to organizations and towns across the country and to connect with amazing communities to celebrate the richness of our nation,” said WoodmenLife President & CEO Denise M. McCauley. “As America marks its 250th birthday, it is important that we honor the hardworking people who built our country and continue to strengthen our communities today.”
