Tompkinsville Elementary’s “Cubby Choir” Hits the Right Note – Contest Winnings to Boost Student Learning

TOMPKINSVILLE, Ky. – When Tompkinsville Elementary’s “Cubby Choir” sang their way to Second Place in the K-8 division of WoodmenLife’s ninth annual ‘America Is…’  Video Contest, they didn’t just win $1,500, they struck a chord that will resonate in classrooms for years to come.

The choir, made up of 30 enthusiastic 4th and 5th graders under the direction of music teacher Mrs. Hope Myatt, created and performed an original patriotic song for their contest entry. Their creativity and teamwork earned national recognition and a cash prize that the school plans to invest in student success.

Tompkinsville Elementary will use the winnings to purchase supplemental resources for its new High Quality Instructional Resources (HQIR) in reading and math. This includes I-Ready (skills assessment tool) for math and Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) for reading, programs designed to strengthen foundational skills and accelerate learning.

“This prize money is more than a reward, it’s an opportunity,” said Chelsey Murphy, Tompkinsville Elementary Assistant Principal. “By adding extra tools to our HQIR programs, we can give students the support they need to thrive in reading and math. The Cubby Choir showed us what collaboration and creativity can accomplish, and now that same spirit will help drive academic growth across our school.”

WoodmenLife’s ‘America Is…’ Video Contest celebrates patriotism and creativity among students nationwide. This year’s contest drew 74 entries and more than 9,000 votes from supporters across the country, proving that pride in America is alive and well in classrooms everywhere.
