Banding Day is Here! Are You Ready?
Banding Day 2018
WoodmenLife is celebrating the 30th year of it’s falcon program and tomorrow is the highly anticipated banding day! We are proud to have helped play a role in helping the peregrine falcons bounce back from near extinction. The banding will take place at 10 a.m. and run until 11 a.m. central time. We will be covering the ceremony via our social media, however, you can watch previous banding day ceremonies on our Falcon Watch website.
You can watch the banding ceremony on WoodmenLife’s Facebook page as we will be streaming the event live. A quick reminder that the live stream FalconCam will not be showing the nest as usual during the time of the banding. During this time, we will clean the window and make sure the camera is working properly. We try to minimize disturbances to the falcons – so we get everything done that we can during this one time.
Conducting today’s banding will be our friends from Fontenelle Forest’s Raptor Recovery and Nebraska Game and Parks. Our friend Joel Jorgensen will lead the banding – check out his blog about non-game birds. We’re lucky to have an expert like him in our state.
2018 Naming Contest
Be sure to stay tuned for the gender announcement as well as information in regards to the 2018 Name the Falcons contest. Submissions will begin tomorrow after the ceremony at 12 p.m. Central Time. The names can be submitted until June 22, through WoodmenLife’s Facebook page. Voting for the top 5 names will begin June 25, and run through June 29. The winning names will be announced July 3. Good luck!
