Meals On Wheels Seniors Receive Special St. Patrick’s Day Treat

It may not be gold at the end of the rainbow, but Meals on Wheels seniors will be getting a special treat with their lunch today.

WoodmenLife is sponsoring a special cookie to go with each of the 700 lunches Meals on Wheels will deliver this morning. Earlier this year, WoodmenLife made a $5,000 general donation to the Eastern Nebraska Office on Aging for the Meals on Wheels program, and a $1,000 donation earmarked for these special treats, to be delivered on Jan. 23 and today, March 17.

“It’s just a random act of kindness that we wanted to give to these seniors,” said Annette Devine, Vice President of Accounting Services and also Chair of WoodmenLife’s Corporate Social Responsibility Committee.

WoodmenLife associates know very well what is involved with delivering Meals on Wheels. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, associates deliver lunch to the residents of the Park East Tower, and have been doing so for more than 15 years.

“We appreciate the ongoing support from WoodmenLife, and the special treats will mean a lot to those receiving the meal today. It’s extremely thoughtful of WoodmenLife to do this for our home-bound elderly, and the monetary support will help to improve the delivery of this valuable service,” said Eastern Nebraska Office on Aging Director Dennis Loose.

For more than 30 years, the Eastern Nebraska Office on Aging has been providing the Meals on Wheels program to low income seniors in the metro area.
