WoodmenLife Tower to Light Purple for Gold Star Mother’s Day

Omaha, Nebr. – Sunday night the WoodmenLife Tower will be purple to send WoodmenLife’s support to all of America’s Gold Star Mother’s.

A mother who’s lost a child who was an active-duty service member automatically becomes a Gold Star Mother, according to Military.com. It’s a distinction that dates back to World War II, when flags with blue stars marked the homes and businesses of active-duty service personnel. When an individual was killed on duty, a gold star was put on top of the blue one. Today, Gold Star Mothers have a service organization where they can find support from one another. Visit GoldStarMoms.com to learn more and read some of these women’s stories.

WoodmenLife will share this on social media with the tag @AGSM_National and the hashtag #LightWoodmenLifeTower.

To see a schedule of upcoming tower lightings or to request one, visit the WoodmenLife Tower Lighting Partnership website.
