WoodmenLife Tower Falcon Chicks Named

Omaha, Neb. – The voting results are in and the names of the three female and one male WoodmenLife Tower peregrine falcon chicks are Penelope, Lilly, Charlotte (females) and Max (male). The winning names were submitted by Sandra Phillips of Macedonia, Ohio.

In late May, the falcon chicks were banded, blood-tested and genders determined based the size of the falcon’s feet (the females have larger feet).  Fontenelle Forest Raptor Recovery Nebraska and the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission banded the chicks and performed health checks.

WoodmenLife hosted its annual falcon chick-naming contest on the organization’s Facebook business page. The contest began immediately following the banding and gender determination. Fans entered groups of four names, and five finalist name groups were determined by an internal WoodmenLife Committee. The finalists were re-posted on the Facebook page, and the winner was determined by popular fan votes.

This is the 27th year in which peregrine falcons have chosen to nest atop the WoodmenLife Tower and produce offspring. The father, Mintaka, has made the WoodmenLife Tower his home for the past three years. The mother, Charity is a new resident. The unbanded female was named in the “Who’s Your Mommy” Naming Contest held in April.
