WoodmenLife Appoints Vice President, Chief Security Official

WoodmenLife is increasing its focus on security for both its members and associates by adding the position of Vice President, Chief Security Official.

Paula Mau, a former WoodmenLife associate and successful business owner, was appointed to this role. She is tasked with helping the not-for-profit protect its members’ confidential data as well as the WoodmenLife tower in downtown Omaha.

Matt Ellis, Executive Vice President, Secretary & General Counsel, said Mau will bring a focus to this role that members and associates deserve.

“We take the trust our members put in us to protect their confidential information very seriously,” Ellis said. “We manage a great deal of data, and we can never let our guard down. Paula and this new position will help us keep current with best practices to keep our members’ information secure.”

Central to her role will be ensuring all points of data and systems access, as well as building access, are assessed for risk and controlled.

Mau started her career as a programmer after graduating from Northwest Missouri State University with a bachelor of science in data processing and management. Over the past decades, she has gained experience in security, software design and development, multi-platform testing, program management, infrastructure design, and more.

Mau is a familiar face to some WoodmenLife associates. She was previously at the helm of the infrastructure and security teams in the tower. She stepped away from WoodmenLife in 2010 to start her own consulting business, Luma Services. The boutique firm continues to support the success of a number of Omaha’s larger businesses.

Outside of work, she pours energy into Rase Strong, an organization that raises money for intestinal cancer research.

“I have seen first-hand the commitment WoodmenLife makes to its members,” Mau said. “That is what motivates me every day.”
