Woodmen of the World Receives 2013 Governor’s Workplace Wellness Award

Omaha, Neb. – Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society was recently named one of 50 organizations across Nebraska to receive Gov. Dave Heineman’s “Governor’s Excellence in Wellness Grower Award”  honoring successful efforts in promoting workplace wellness.

Nebraska’s workplace wellness program offers two categories. The Sower Award recognizes workplaces that have established quality wellness programs; the Grower Award takes it to the next level, and honors businesses and organizations demonstrating significant improvement in employee health status through their wellness programs.

Woodmen of the World Wellness Coordinator Whitney Schulenberg said, “We would like to see Wellness as a priority in most associates’ lives so they understand the importance of being healthy and support each other, which is crucial for maintaining healthy habits.”

Factors considered for the award included the level of support for the program by company leaders, assessment of employee needs, wellness plan design, outcomes and benefits, and policies supporting healthy behaviors. Schulenberg adds, “The opportunity for associates to participate in an annual personal health assessment allows associates and Woodmen of the World to gauge the health status of the organization and has helped us in planning wellness initiatives for the upcoming year.”
