Woodmen Holds Groundbreaking for Community Center
Kinston, NC – The Woodmen Foundation and the Kinston-Lenoir County Parks & Recreation Commission plan to co-host a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Woodmen Community Center on Friday, June 4 at 11:00 a.m at the former Smithfield Packing Site, located at 2602 W. Vernon Ave. in Kinston.
City, county and state officials are all expected to speak at the ceremony, which will be emceed by Danny Rice, a member of the Woodmen of the World Board of Directors.
The Woodmen Community Center structure is over one acre in size, and will sit on approximately 17 acres of land. Two gymnasiums, an elevated walking and running track, a large cardio and fitness area, several meeting rooms, a kitchen, locker rooms, and Woodmen of the World Field offices are all anticipated amenities at the site. Also proposed are an indoor soccer field, swimming complex, and indoor batting cages. The facility is expected to open in late summer or early fall, 2011.
The Woodmen Foundation was established by Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society, where members routinely organize community events, fundraising efforts, food and clothing drives, patriotic programs and community activities. Each of these events is expected to become regularly scheduled occasions at the new Community Center.
