Woodmen Community Center to Open Year-Round Wellness Pool
Kinston, N.C. – The new
Woodmen Community
Center, located at the former Smithfield
Packing Site, 2602 W. Vernon Ave. in Kinston, has
recently broken ground on a 1,000 sq. ft. wellness pool.
According to Jim Stolze, the wellness
pool has significant potential in terms of overall community health and
wellness. The pool will have wheelchair access and will be utilized for individual
and group therapy sessions that will focus on prevention, wellness and health
maintenance. The “wellness” pool water temperature
will be kept at 90 degrees year-round.
The
competition pool will be 25 yards in length, 8 lanes, and will be constructed
to competition pool standards, including a gallery area. This will allow the Woodmen Community
Center to host many swimming events.
The Woodmen Community
Center structure is over one acre in
size, and will sit on approximately 17 acres of land. The facility will consist
of two gymnasiums, an elevated walking and running track, a large cardio and
fitness area, several meeting rooms, a kitchen, locker rooms, City of Kinston
Parks and Recreation offices, and Woodmen of the World Field offices. The gymnasiums will be used for basketball,
volleyball, indoor soccer, and planned indoor batting cages. The facility is expected to open in July of
2012.
