Soon to Be Empty Nesters
Two of the female falcon chicks have left the nest box, and one is hanging out nearby. You can see mom keeping a close watch on her in the North Nest.
Even though the girls have left the nest, they will remain dependent on their parents for another two months. Mintaka and Charity will deliver food to the fledglings and as they get better at flying, will teach them to hunt in the air.
The male falcon chick, Hunter (H/57), has been in rehab and is not going to be releasable. He was diagnosed with retinitis, a permanent vision impairment that would make it extremely difficult for his survival in the wild.
