Native Omahan Chosen as Fraternalist of the Year
Omaha, Neb. – Angie Schendt, Editor at Woodmen of the World, has been named Woodmen of the World’s 2013 Home Office Fraternalist of the Year. An associate at Woodmen of the World for ten years, Angie has fully embraced the fraternal spirit.
The Home Office Fraternalist of the Year Award is an honor presented annually by Woodmen of the World to recognize a Home Office associate, who through example and accomplishment has provided outstanding volunteer service to his or her lodge, society and community in the past year.
“Angie has made a profound impact on Woodmen of the World and the Omaha community through the generosity of her time and expertise,” said Larry King, President and CEO at Woodmen of the World.
“Volunteerism is at the heart of what we do, and Angie is a great example of how our associates are making meaningful contributions to their communities.”
As Editor at Woodmen of the World, Schendt is responsible for managing all aspects of Woodmen of the World’s publications, including leading the production team, setting editorial direction and editing content. She is also responsible for content marketing through a variety of media. She is a member of the Public Relations Society of America and her work has been recognized by PRSA Nebraska on several occasions. Schendt is a 1994 graduate of Millard North. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1999.
“I’m very humbled to receive this award – I’m surrounded by co-workers that do so much in our community and who are true fraternalists. I feel honored to work at a company that values volunteerism and community outreach as much as Woodmen of the World does,” she said.
Schendt is a Big Sister through Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands. She is on the leadership team for Woodmen of the World’s Young Professionals Group and is a Sustainer in the Junior League of Omaha. Schendt was honored by the Omaha Jaycees as a “Top Outstanding Young Omahan” in 2012. She has served as the American Red Cross Blood Drive Coordinator for Woodmen Tower since 2004 and is a graduate of ICAN’s Defining Leadership program. Schendt volunteers with “Louder Than a Bomb,” a poetry slam which brings teens together for a friendly competition involving poetry, oral story-telling, and hip-hop spoken word. She has volunteered for the Omaha Literacy Center and as a mentor for the Girl Scouts Young Women Executive Camp. In addition, she regularly participates in Woodmen of the World events and department activities, ranging from bringing in food donations for the Open Door Mission, volunteering monthly for the Meals-on-Wheels program, supporting fundraisers, handing out flags on 9/11 and more.
