Matthew Senn Chosen as Woodmen of the World Fraternalist of the Year
Omaha, Neb. – Matthew Senn of West Columbia, South Carolina has been named
Woodmen of the World’s 2012 Fraternalist of the Year. A member of Lodge 1276,
Senn has been a member of Woodmen of the World for two years and has fully
embraced the fraternal spirit.
Over the last year,
Senn has volunteered more than 700 hours of his time while going to school
full-time at the University of South Carolina and working two
part-time jobs. He volunteers at the lodge’s weekly game night, Make A
Difference Day and JOIN HANDS DAY activities. Senn helped
shop, pack and deliver school supplies for needy children and represented his
Lodge at the South Carolina Fraternal Alliance, where he helped pack lunches
for the Lunch Bags 4 Kids program.
Outside of Woodmen
of the World, Senn volunteers with the Autism Society and the Ray Tanner
Foundation. He is an active member of Saluda River Baptist Church and is the
youngest elected deacon. He currently serves as Co-chairman of the Board, Chairman
of the Church Grounds Committee, Youth Team Committee and the Nominating
Committee. Senn helped organize and plan many church outreach programs,
including: Drive Through Bethlehem Christmas program, college and career class fundraising
projects, Valentine Banquet for widows and widowers, Vacation Bible School, Halloween Trunk
‘n’ Treat and the Easter Spring Fling for church and community children. He
also coaches a t-ball team for underprivileged boys and does yard work for
disabled residents in the community.
On being such an
active fraternalist, Senn said, “I get to see the difference that volunteering
efforts can make. The look of appreciation on the faces of those I have the
opportunity to help gives me an overall satisfaction. It’s not just about
helping others, it’s a way for me to grow, develop and ultimately better
myself. “
Matthew Senn’s name
was submitted to the American Fraternal Alliance for their Fraternalist of the
Year contest. The winner’s name from all the member fraternal benefit societies
will be announced at their annual meeting in September.
“Many of our
members support countless and amazing causes in their community, but Matthew
stands out among his peers because of his dedication and the range of the
organizations he supports. His passion for giving to others can be seen in
everything he does and Woodmen of the World is proud to have him represent us
in the community,” said Larry King, Executive Vice President, Fraternal.
