Lucille Stemkowski Chosen as Woodmen of the World Fraternalist of the Year
OMAHA, NEB. – Lucille Stemkowski of Hewlett, NY has been named Woodmen of the World’s 2010 Fraternalist of the Year.
As Vice President of Family Lodge 467 in Hewlett, NY, Stemkowski helps or leads nearly every lodge project, from JOIN HANDS DAY to Make A Difference Day. Volunteering has always been a big part of her life. “I felt the people I met through volunteering are the kind of people I want to be around,” she said.
Stemkowski is retired from the banking industry and now works part-time as a bookkeeper. When Stemkowski was with the bank, she was a member of the Garden City Rotary Club and volunteered for the March of Dimes. She also served, on a volunteer basis, as Treasurer for the Nassau County Legislature when it was being established. Now, she’s the treasurer of the local Red Hats Society and provides Notary Public services for free. But she also values one-on-one time with children she mentors and other neighbors in her community who need her assistance and friendship.

Woodmen of the World submitted Stemkowski’s name and application to the National Fraternal Congress of America for its Fraternalist of the Year competition. The award was presented at the association’s annual meeting in September in Chicago, IL.
