Four Falcon Chicks are Keeping Parents Busy

Hunting has ramped up for the WoodmenLife Tower falcons since early May, when all four eggs hatched. The baby chicks are voracious eaters, keeping mom and dad busy.

The chicks wait impatiently in the nest until mom or dad drops down to deliver the prey.

It’s the dominant chick who gets the first bite, but mom makes sure to rotate positions during feeding so everyone gets their fair share.

Once the prey is devoured, the hunt is on again! These growing youngsters double their weight in only six days and at three weeks will be ten times birth size. Before we know it, they’ll be climbing out of the nest and exploring the ledge.

Mintaka and Charity established the WoodmenLife Tower as their nesting site in 2015 after Charity replaced Hera, an older female falcon who had nested and raised 36 chicks on the building since 2006.
