Food Bank for the Heartland Receives $25,000 Donation

Omaha, Neb. – On Saturday, March 21, the Food Bank for the Heartland received a $25,000 donation from Woodmen of the World. Larry King, president and CEO; and Matt Ellis, vice president and General Council of Woodmen of the World presented the donation to Susan Ogborn, president of the Food Bank.

“As a long-standing partner of the Food Bank, we are pleased to be able to make this donation,” said King, “to help continue the fight against hunger within our local community, as well as nationally with our first-ever National Community Focus: Fighting Hunger initiative.”

“We are grateful for Woodmen of the World’s continued support of our efforts in Nebraska and western Iowa,” said Susan Ogborn, president and CEO of Food Bank for the Heartland. “This contribution will allow the Food Bank to distribute enough food for 75,000 meals.”

Food Bank for the Heartland is a private 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that acts as a central clearinghouse through which the food industry and community may donate surplus food to feed hungry individuals, families and children. Food is distributed to more than 225 member agencies in 77 counties in Nebraska and 16 counties in western Iowa. Food Bank for the Heartland distributed 15.5 million pounds of product in 2014 and served over 250,000 different people in need in the heartland.
