Faye Allen Chosen as Woodmen of the World Fraternalist of the Year
Omaha, Neb. – Faye Allen of Sylacauga, Ala., has been named Woodmen of the World’s 2013 Fraternalist of the Year. She is secretary of Lodge 1137 in Sylacauga, and served as a delegate to the Alabama 2013 Jurisdictional Convention. Faye also serves as a Trustee for the Jurisdiction of Alabama and has been a Woodmen of the World member-customer for 47 years.
Aldridge With Lodge 1137, Allen volunteers at least five days a week in various capacities. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Sylacauga Chamber of Commerce and as an Officer with the Coosa County Cattlewomen’s Association. Allen is a volunteer financial advisor at the Center for Arts & Entertainment Education. She volunteers with the Maxye Veazey Senior Nutrition Program, which delivers daily meals to more than 80 patients. Allen also volunteers during the annual Marble Festival (City of Sylacauga Founders Day) and the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. She is the Choir Director at Weogufka First Baptist Church and can often be found donating her time at the B.B. Comer Memorial Library, the J. Craig Community Civic Center and at Sylacauga Parks & Recreation.
Additionally, Allen has mobilized youth and adults to work together in the community through Lodge 1137’s annual JOIN HANDS DAY project, a cleanup day at the Weogufka Community Center. She delegated much of the project’s tasks to the youth and made sure they were involved in planning from the very beginning and through implementing the group’s ideas. Allen also is the Coordinator of Bridges, a leadership training and education program for local youth.
On being such an active fraternalist, Allen said, “I am thankful for the opportunity to serve as Lodge Secretary. I really enjoy meeting new people and staying in touch with friends through Woodmen of the World. I am grateful for every opportunity that I am given, and am humbled to receive this honor.”
Faye Allen’s name was submitted to the American Fraternal Alliance for their Fraternalist of the Year contest. The winner’s name from all the member fraternal benefit societies will be announced at the association’s annual meeting in September.
