Falcon Chicks Gender Determined

After the Woodmen Tower falcons were banded and blood-tested this morning it was determined that there are two female and three male falcons. Gender is determined solely on the size of the falcon’s feet. Raptor Recovery Nebraska and the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission banded the chicks and performed health checks. This is the 24th year in which peregrine falcons have chosen to nest atop the Tower and the seventh year in which falcon pair Zeus and Hera have produced offspring.

Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society will host its annual falcon-naming contest entirely on Woodmen’s Facebook Fan page, WOWInsurance under the “Name the Falcons” contest tab. The on-line contest began this afternoon after it was determined that there are two female and three male falcons.
