Crescent Food Pantry Receives Donation of 4 Tons of Food

When it comes to helping one of their own, WoodmenLife associates go the extra mile. Exactly 12,930 items of food were recently donated by associates recently to a non-profit founded by their co-worker.

Calling it the “Every Can Counts” food drive, a nod to the organization’s internal service motto, WoodmenLife associates held a competition to see which floor in the WoodmenLife Tower could donate the most food. The 23rd floor, which has 37 people, won with an average of 79 items per associate.

All of this added up to 8,000 pounds (or four tons) of food, which has overwhelmed the Crescent Food Pantry, in the best way.

“The pantry is overflowing, but it’s amazing. We will be able to help so many families through the holidays with this influx of food,” said Founder Tammy Meyer, who is also an Underwriter at WoodmenLife. Meyer founded the food pantry in December 2014 after seeing the need in her community of Crescent, IA.

“We are so proud of Tammy and the way she is making a positive impact in her community. And I could not be more proud of our associates who have gone above and beyond to support her,” said Executive Vice President, Fraternal Pat Dees.

Dees and other WoodmenLife associates will be making a check presentation to Meyer at the Crescent Food Pantry on Friday, Nov. 4 at 2:15 p.m. In addition to the food drive, various activities were also held to raise money for the pantry, totaling a donation of $2,269.
